Celebrating World Earth Day 2022 | Invest in our planet

We’re always looking at ways to invest in our sustainability by having the most environmentally friendly packaging we can for our ready made meals, whilst keeping the integrity and quality of the product.

To celebrate Earth Day this 2022, we’re highlighting how all of our packaging used for our orders can be recycled by you at home, helping you play your part to minimise the impact on the environment..

Wool Cool Liners

We love our Wool Cool! Made from NZ wool offcuts (which would have otherwise gone to waste) our liners act as a perfect insulation for our meals when packed with the Thermogard gel ice packs. Not only that but the wool within the soft plastic liner is compostable and biodegradable too, how ‘mean as’ is that?!

Surprisingly, these wool liners have quite a few creative uses for them, other than insulating our delicious meals of course. Here are just a few of the many ways you can reuse your wool cool liners.

  • A weed mat for the garden. The wool is 100% compostable and biodegradable, making the liners perfect weed mats. The plain colouring of the wool will also allow it to just blend right in, you won't even notice it! All you will need to recycle is the plastic lining which you can do in your soft plastics recycling.
  • Layer for the compost bin. Keep everything clean, tidy and healthily composting with the wool, again, recycling the liner in soft plastics.
  • Wrapping breakables. On the move? The wool cool serves as a perfect protection for any precious breakables.

However, if you have no use for the wool cool liners at all you can dispose of them guilt-free, simply remove the wool from the plastic liner, pop the wool itself in the landfill bin and the liner in soft plastics recycling, easy peasy lemon squeezy.

If you do repurpose your wool cool liner, we’d love to hear from you! Send us an email tocontact.hellofoods@gmail.com and show us how you’ve repurposed your wool cool liner!

#1 PET Recyclable Meal Trays

We are super excited to announce that we have added fully recyclable meal trays to our production. These trays are recyclable NZ wide, simply rinse out any unwanted food or grease and pop them in with the recycling!

Cardboard Boxes

Our boxes are super useful if you are, or have any plans to move house or need to put anything in storage. Otherwise, you can simply flatten and recycle them with your other cardboard/paper recycling. Maybe check with the kids first though, they might want to build some forts!

Thermogard Ice Packs

If you’re a regular user of our meals, then you may have a stockpile of ice packs in the freezer.

These gel packs can prove to be quite useful, by keeping one or two in the freezer, they’re perfect for chilly bins, picnics or even for the kids lunch bag. The gel does not contain any chemical nasties or toxic ingredients, and because of the high quality components, Thermogard Gel Packs are built to last.

People often question whether or not the ice packs can be safely disposed of, great news, they can be! The gel in the ice packs won’t harm the environment or clog up your drain.

To dispose of your gel ice packs correctly, please follow the steps below:

1. Defrost any unwanted ice packs and cut open using a pair of scissors.
2. You can choose 1 of the following 3 options, either:
  • Spread gel around your plants to retain water moisture.
  • Add a teaspoon of salt to the gel pack and pour gel down the drain.
  • Empty the gel into your rubbish bin.

*By adding a teaspoon of salt and mixing with the gel you will be able to pour this down your drain. The salt will break up the gel to a more liquid form, this will mean the gel will not clog your drain.

3. Once you have got rid of all the gel, give the plastic casing a good rinse under the tap. You can then recycle the case with your soft plastics recycling.

And there you have it, that’s how each component of an order can be recycled. Muscle Fuel will continue to keep sustainability and the wellbeing of the environment as a key value, with our team always researching new, cleaner solutions to deliver our product and reduce  our impact on the environment.

Happy Earth Day!
