We’re super stoked to be supporting Pro MMA Fighter, Nyrene Crowleywith our healthy pre-made meals to help fuel her training and recovery. We took a few minutes to catch up with her and discuss all things MMA, her nutrition plan and her upcoming fight with Bruce Lee!.. Just kidding! 

What is your biggest sporting achievement to date?
Being the first Kiwi female fighter to perform on the ONE Championship stage with only 2 weeks notice.

What is the best part about competing?
The thrill, the rush! Being confronted with moments of absolute chaos and fear and choosing to push forward to face it. There is no other feeling like it.

What does your nutrition plan look like when you’re preparing for a fight/tournament?
I know my body pretty well so in fight camp usually the first things to go are sugar and dairy. A lot of fresh lean meat and carbohydrate rich vegetables. A lot of water also. Usually as we get closer the portion sizes are restricted depending on how much weight I am off by.

  

 

Who is your biggest inspiration?
My mother. She emigrated from Samoa by herself at a young age, and has been through a lot in her life. She is the strongest woman I know.

If you could have one dream fight with anyone, who would it be?
A dream fight with anyone?!? Bruce Lee easy haha. Just to be one of the few people that can say they stood in the same breathing space as the ultimate legend of martial arts. Then after the fight we’d drink some beer and he’d enlighten my life with all of his magical prophecies and teachings haha.


How are you finding the Muscle Fuel meals? And which is your favourite?
The meals have honestly been the best addition to my fight camp ! I have never had prep meals like this before. The ease of the service, the impeccable quality of the meals I love them!. I am always left so satisfied, properly fueled and ready to take on the next day of training. My favourite meal so far has been the Cumin Lamb! 

What advice would you have for others wanting to take up MMA-type sports?
Be patient and enjoy the process. A lot of people especially now, want results fast and want to fast-track their training. But like with anything in life, it’s the small steps that will make the significant long-lasting changes in our learnings. MMA and Martial Arts are super challenging but so incredibly rewarding so I encourage EVERYONE to give it a go!!!
