Even the most active people feel lazier in winter. It’s too cold, it’s too dark before and after work, and it’s so much more appealing to wrap up in a warm blanket and eat comfort food rather than work out. But then when summer comes around, after basically being dormant during winter, we panic at the thought of going to the beach and having to reveal our resulting physiques!

But winter is actually the best time to work on our summer body goals. Think about it, over the winter months you can gradually and more easily progress to the fit body you want to show off at the pool. Rather than frantically having to crash diet and do boot camps every morning to race against the start of summer - which doesn’t work and would make you wish you changed your ways in winter!

So how do we move past feeling lazy in winter and get motivated? We need to change the way we think about how these 4 factors affect our bodies:

#1. Hydration

During winter, it’s just as important to drink at least two litres of water a day. Staying hydrated is the cheapest and most effective way to benefit your body in so many ways. Being well hydrated helps to burn fat (Hello, summer body!), maintain supple skin, have mental clarity, promote healthy function of vital organs, regulate body temperature, avoid stiff joints and muscle cramps, and cleanse toxins from your body.

#2. Nutrition

Say no to diets. “Diet” implies your eating habits are only short-term. But eating carefully and having a healthy relationship with food is incredibly beneficial, not only to help you achieve your summer body goals, but also for your long-term health. Meal prep makes eating right a whole lot easier because you will always know exactly what you’re going to eat which will help you avoid eating something unhealthy. Even better, let someone else do the meal prep for you and order delicious ready-to-eat meals from us!

You should also allow yourself some treats. Treat foods are only bad when you eat them often, so you should aim for your food and drink intake to me mostly healthy with some treats now and then for you to look forward to.

#3. Exercise

Other than it helping us feel more confident in our own skin, exercise has a plethora of benefits for our lives. Exercise can help you lose weight, build muscle, increase your energy, lift your mood, strengthen your bones, promote brain health and memory, to name a few. You don’t have to exercise every day to cash in on these benefits and a gym membership isn’t the only option. You can work out at home, there are loads of great workout routines on YouTube, or go for a walk/run. Burn more calories and keep warm by walking places more often, rather than driving or taking the bus, and spend time with your friends and family doing active things on the weekend.

#4. Sleep

Winter is the sleepy season but a lot of us don’t get enough sleep which can contribute to weight gain, low energy, and poor performance. Studies show the optimal amount of sleep for adults is 7-9 hours a night. Having a healthy sleep routine in winter will help you get your summer body ready for the first sign of sun.

It’s not rocket science to make your summer body during the winter months. It just takes a little effort to have healthier habits and make your summer body goals a reality!
